Richard Dean Herring Obituary
Richard Dean Herring, aged 68, of Bay City, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026. Rick was born on August 29, 1958, in Weimar, Texas to Leon and Mary Herring. He lived a life woven with quiet connection, finding a friend in every face he met through his years in customer sales. Though he was a man of measured words, his counsel was deep- a steady compass for navigating life’s storms. He believed wholly in the grace of earnest labor, teaching those he loved to pour their hearts into every task, caring forward through even the heaviest days with quiet resilience. He taught his children to cast lines into quiet waters and to follow the long green curves of a golf course, turning simple pastimes into lifelong bonds. He was their quiet anchor and their fiercest champion, cheering them forward in every path they chose to walk. Above all, he left them the legacy of a craftsman’s heart – the conviction that whatever work your hands find to do, it should be done with care, intention, and pride.
He found his greatest joy in the laughter of his grandchildren, whom he adored with fierce, endless devotion. Yet he also cherished the simple rhythms of the morning – gathered with his breakfast buddies, sharing stories, and watching the world wake up.
He leaves behind a legacy of steadfast love, survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Donna Stone Herring; his daughter Sarah Johnson and husband Doc; his son Michael Herring and wife Chelsea; and his cherished grandchildren; River Cole Herring, Aubree Brooklynn Johnson, and Jacie Teagan Johnson; sister Marilyn Schobel; brother Larry Herring and wife Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, a private family service will be conducted at a later date.
