Montorrey Bonner Obituary

On Friday, April 5, 1974, Marilyn Bonner and Roy Lester Bonner announced the birth of their son, Montorrey Deron Bonner.  Montorrey was a quiet child who grew up enjoying playing with his siblings and other family members.  Hot summer days were filled with outside fun as was the custom in the 70’s.  Playing marbles, basketball, or wall ball was the norm.  Those were good days.  Although playing outside was fun, they all looked forward to the time when they were old enough to work summer jobs as teens so they could make money!  They were a close-knit family who loved, depend on, supported and looked out for each other.  They understood what it meant to have each other’s back.

Montorrey graduated from Bay City High School and immediately went to work.  He secured a position at his high school alma mater where he worked for several years.  Following his employment with the school, Montorrey became a guard at the prison.  After many years of working as a guard, he accepted a position at the plant where he was currently employed.

He was always an easy-going home person who chilled out and enjoyed watching movies.  He could make some awesome nachos and was a BBQ grill master.  He didn’t do “the streets” but invested his time with his family.  He had a unique laugh that could light up a room.  He also had a big heart and would help whenever he could.  Montorrey would ask questions to determine the need and respond appropriately.

[A person wearing a white hat Description automatically generated with low confidence] Montorrey was raised in the church.  They would ride the ‘joy bus’ to church for bible study and he prayed daily.   He lived a good life and was thought of by many as a peace maker.  He was also a good listener who also understood that sometimes you had to ‘go along to get along’.  Montorrey prided himself on caring for his mother and his nieces who lived with him.

On Saturday, March 12, 2022, Montorrey transitioned. It goes without saying that he will be missed.  Those who will often reflect on these and many other memories include his mother, Marilyn Bonner of Bay City, Texas; his siblings: Torrace Bonner, Torrey Bonner each of Bay City, Texas, Roshad Bonner of Austin, Texas, Sherroyce Bonner of Dallas, Texas and Rodnisha Bonner of Bay City, Texas; nieces: Alexis Gordon and Jenesis Faumui both of Bay City, Texas, Kelsea Field and Chelesea Field both of Houston, Texas, nephews: Torrey Gordon, Travis Gordon, and Tyrese Gordon all from California; aunts: Sherilyn (James) Price and Velva Gordon each of Houston, Texas; uncle: Darryl Gordon of Bay, City, Texas; great aunt: Olie Jean Parks of Bay City, Texas; and great uncle: Jimmie Taylor of Bay City, Texas.
