Remembering Pops AKA Old Man

The Beginning of a Legend

On December 27, 1939, a son was born to James Parks Sr. and Jessie Mae Parks by the name of Herman Lee Parks Sr. in Wadsworth Texas.

Business as Usual

Herman spent his earlier years at Hillard School where he obtained the fundamentals to later become one of the Greatest African American Business Owners in both Matagorda and Brazoria Counties. Herman & Sons Exxon, Herman & Sons Texaco, Parks Diner, and for a short while he sold life insurance to elderly citizens in Matagorda County.

Herman enlisted in the Army where he served his country proudly. This later led to him volunteering to drive his fellow veterans to medical appointments to the VA for years, an experience that he would come to love, honor, and cherish.

Herman was best known for his style, smile, hustle, his ambition, and his love for his family.

Family

Herman met and married the love of his life Ollie Taylor June 15, 1965. From this 55 years of life would produce five beautiful children.

Herman leaves to celebrate his life: Wife Ollie Jean Parks, four children La Wanda Parks, Henry Campbell, Ural Parks (Maria), Felicia Parks, and Tinequa Parks-Scott (Trini) whom he raised from day one grandchildren Le’Darion (SaVannah), Ural, Dezmon, Shinequa, Benjamin, Demion, DeShelia (Rex), Evan, Bryan, Patrianne, Micah, Dalja, Richard (Lori), Kendra, Manuel, Zoe, Shekinnah, Destiny, Japhael, Dookie, Kelvin, Duggie, and Chris. A host of Great Grand kids, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Answering the Call

After serving as a deacon at First Sacred Memorial under the leadership pf Pastor Harold S. Williams for majority of his adult life, he was driven to answer the call to Preach the Gospel of Jesus  Christ. Later, he would be ordained as Associate Pastor at Evangelist Temple here in Bay City, Texas. A Title in which he was humbled to carry until his eyes closed February 21, 2021.

Herman was preceded in death by: James Parks Sr, Mae Parks, siblings, and his youngest baby boy Herman Lee Park Jr.
