Gladys Thomas, 70 of Cedar Lake, TX, passed away January 18, 2022.She attended public school at O.H. Herman High School in Van Vleck, Texas and later went to Job Corp in McKinney Texas in 1965 to become a culinary cook. Gladys was an avid cook and began her cooking career at Woodlake Nursing Home. Working there for seven years, she then moved on to Wyatt’s Cafeteria in the Brazos Mall working as a head cook/kitchen manager for almost 30 years. On June 14th, 1999, Gladys began working at Economic Action Center in Bay City, TX preparing meals for the meals on wheels program and serving the elderly. Gladys would refer to the meal recipients as “her babies”. She loved her babies and took great pride in ensuring they were served the healthiest meals all the time. Gladys also prepared and served the annual thanksgiving meal at the Bay City Service Center serving over 200 people through EAC. She loved to cook and never used a measuring cup for any recipes.
Gladys was preceded in death by her grandparents Samuel Austin Sr and Frankie Gee Austin; parents Clifford Bernard Sr. and Lillie Mae Bernard; brothers Booker T “Lester” Bernard and Thomas “Meatloaf” Bernard, sister Elinor “Sadie” Bernard and son, Andrew Thomas, Jr.
Gladys leaves to cherish her precious memories Andrew Thomas Sr. husband of Cedar Lake TX, Daughters Shamarlyn Bernard of Cedar Lake TX, Cassandra (John) Higgins of Sweeny, TX and Latasha Thomas of Pearland, TX, sons; Roy Thomas and Paul Thomas (Holly) of Cedar Lake TX. Five Siblings; Clifford Bernard Jr, Charles Bernard, And Jerry Bernard all of Cedar Lake, TX, Matthew (Rosalyn)Bernard, Sr of Missouri City, TX, and June (David) Babineaux of Denver, Colorado. God Daughter, Lawren Daily of Cedar Lane, TX and special daughter Teena Spradley of Bay City, TX, 27 grandchildren,7 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on January 29, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Brazoria, Texas. For those individuals who wish to view the remains, a walk-through viewing will be conducted from 1:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. on Friday January 28, 2022, at Lakeside Memorial Chapel 3318 Ave D Bay City, Texas.
