Edmond Baker Obituary

 

Bishop Edmond Lindell Baker, Sr. was born on October 31, 1947, at Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville, LA, to the late Eddie E. Baker, Sr. and Elouise Anthanase Baker.

Edmond joined Grover Chapel AME Church at a young age, under the leadership of the late, Rev. Elijah Anderson. He was a graduate of Southwest High School in Glenmora, LA. Edmond moved to Denton, Tx. for college, where he met and married the late Pauline Ruth (Simple) Baker. They were married for 39 years (until her earthly departure). To this union five children were born: Edmond Baker, Jr., Pauletta Baker Dunlap, Edmond Baker III, Paula Baker and Eddie-Sherman Baker. He later remarried Rebecca Brinkley Baker of whom he was presently married to (upon his earthly departure). To this union he was blessed with two bonus children: Lee Brinkley and Reketha Griggs. Edmond served as youth pastor at Greater Mt Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late, H. L. Mackey. He went on to pastor, Magnolia Baptist Church which would later be renamed Magnolia Bible Church, where he served as Bishop for over 40 years, until his health declined. Bishop was a pioneer and pillar in the community, a former teacher at Sweeny ISD, a pastor, bishop, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, mentor, friend and let's not forget “A JOKESTER”!!!!

Bishop Baker was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Baker, Sr.; mother, Elouise Baker; wife, Pauline Baker; daughter, Paula Baker; brothers, Roland Baker, Sr. and Dedric Baker; grandsons, Deon Dunlap and Jahvion Thrift.

Bishop Baker leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted wife, Rebecca Baker; mother in love, Wilada Green; sons, Edmond Baker, Jr., Edmond Baker III, Eddie-Sherman Baker, and Lee Brinkley; daughters, Pauletta Dunlap (Saylaion Sr.), and Reketha Griggs (Verlin); grandchildren, Jarvis, Dion, Paulita (Brandon), Darian, Saylaion Jr., Patience (Erich, Sr.), Passion, Sayvion, Brooklyn, Sion, Jamar, Niyah, Anna and Avery; great-grandchildren, Markell, Renise, Erich, Jr., and Majestie; brothers, Eddie Baker, Jr., Rynnie Baker (Sonya), C. L. Baker (Jean), John Baker (Linda), Eric Baker, Sr. (Janice), Kenneth Simple (Carolyn), Tracy Brinkley, DeWayne Stredic and Desi Lewis; sisters, Mary Simon (Arnold), Sandra Hooker, Noreen Baker, Brenda Polk [James], Teresa Wiggins (Paul), Angaleak Southall (Craig), Stacy Green, Jana Jones (Ricky) and Tanya Clemons; aunts, Annie C. Kelly, Betty Plummer, Ida Emanuel, and Eddie Miller; nephew/armor bearer, Charles O’Neil; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, children in the ministry and friends.
